Superstar's Trip

Today saw the first Superstar treat of the year for the first girl and first boy to reach 20 stars in each class. For their treat the children got to join Miss Harris and the other members of the Leadership team on a trip to McDonald's. Once their they could choose and order the treat they wanted. 

We would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Bordesley Green branch of McDonald's who took the time to help the children with their orders and provided them with a balloon each.  

Year 5/6 Choir performing on Children in Need

 

On Friday 15th March our Year 5 and 6 choir were lucky enough to be chosen to perform live on BBC Children in Need as part of the Children in Need Choir 2013. The went to the new Birmingham Library where they performed alongside nine other Birmingham and Coventry schools. Click on the picture above to watch the performance.  

Year 6 visit to Parliament

Last week 30 lucky Year 6 children got to go on a trip to the Houses of Parliament in London. Whilst there they also took the opportunity to visit a few other famous landmarks. Carry on reading to hear one child's recount of the day along with some photographs of the places visited.  

"On Monday the 14^th of October we went to London. It took us around three hours to get to London. In the middle of our journey we stopped at  a service station and we saw guards. There was about ten of them. After that, we carried on to London. When we arrived in London we were dropped off near Buckingham Palace.

 The queen’s flag was up so Queen Elizabeth II was in. We saw guards protecting Buckingham Palace. It was amazing! Unfortunately, we had to carry on.

 We saw Clarence house which is the house of Prince Charles. It was huge but not as big as Buckingham Palace. It was white. Buckingham Palace was also white.

We saw the Cenotaph which is a tomb. It was a tomb to remember people in World War I and World War II. Inside it was nothing.

 We went to Trafalgar Square which really is quite small but it was amazing it had history and it had statues. We moved on and saw statue after statue. We carried on and saw Downing Street amongst other places. In one place there was a man with a sword. We walked a few steps and saw people on horses with swords as well.

 When we arrived at The Houses of Parliament, the security had a variety of weapons. We had to go through metal detectors. Then when we passed the security test and we were awarded bands which said we could go through.

We went in the House of Commons first. The first thing we saw was the hall that Guy Fawkes tried to blow up. In the hall there was stained glass which is glass that has a design on it. On the walls there was a layer to hold up the original bricks so they don’t fall and break.

Then a person who works in the House of Parliament came with someone else. I was in one group with Maria and she asked us if we recognised anything in the hall. We said the hall walls had been plastered. We couldn’t find out anymore and she told us about the stained glass which David Cameron bought for the Queen. We carried on and we went up some stairs. We saw the faces of the Kings that there have been.  We were asked more questions and most of them were answered by Adnan.

After that, we were taken to a room which had a quiz. We had to choose team captains and Waqas was my team captain and the other captain was Waddah. We had to press buttons on a remote and if we got the answer right we would win a point. At the end we won and in my opinion we had the best person Adnan. Then we had a talk with our local MP Liam Byrne about how he became a MP and what he does.

Now we were near the end of our trip we bought things from the stall and then we ate our dinner and we went to the service centre again and this time we saw soldiers. Then at nearly seven o’clock we arrived back at school and we all went home."

Year 4 trip to Ackers

Last week all of the children got to go to Ackers Adventure for the day. During the day they had the opportunity to try skiing on a dry ski slope as well as rock climbing on a very large climbing wall and taking part in the Jungle Challenge assault course.

Furqaan 4W

 

"First the lady told us to line up and gave us a harness. We put our legs in the harness on and we started climbing. My best friend Asiya climbed first. She was climbing to the top but she said “I want to get down”, so the man pulled the rope and got down jumping like a rabbit. Then Madalin went to try climbing. He managed to get up to the top. He was to scared to come down so the man climbed up and got him down."

Isha 4W 

"This is my friend having a go at skiing. We had to wear big skiing boots.

We went down 2 slopes. We were not allowed to put our hands on the floor because it was spiky."

Siyma 4W

"First, when we got there, we took our shoes off and got our skiing shoes and skiing boards.

Next, we went outside and lined up. Then the man took one person up and they slid down and some fell down.

Then, we all had two more goes skiing but I never fell down. You  should hold your knees really tight so you don’t fall down.

After that, I asked if we could go from the top of the hill but I was told 'No'.

Finally, we all took our skiing boards off which was very difficult."

Year 3 Residential to Peckwood

Last week, 28 children went on the first ever Year 3 Residential to Peck Wood in Alvechurch.

 

When we arrived all the children were assigned jobs to do. We had cooks, kitchen porters, waiters and cleaners.

 

On the first afternoon, we went for a walk into Alvechurch where we took part in a town trail.

We worked so hard we deserved a treat once we had finished.

 The weather was so great we decided to cool down with a water fight when we got back to Peck Wood.

 

 Mrs Grimes ended up soaked.

In the evening we had a camp fire and toasted marshmallows. Then we all joined in with some camp fire songs. 

The next day we took part in a range of team building activities, such as parachute games, den building and walking on skis.

We had an amazing time and can't wait to go again next year!
