Visiting a Roman Villa

Year 3 visited the Roman city at Wroxeter for their topic of ‘Invaders and settlers’. The trip allowed children to see Roman ruins from 2000 years ago.

The children also handled Roman objects, saw a replica of a Roman villa and dressed as Romans. They had an excellent time and learnt a great deal.

Year 3 Peckwood Residential

This year, due to popular demand, we had a double year 3 residential to Peckwood, with 2 groups of children visiting over a 3 day period.

The weather was great and we managed to pack lots into our two day trip.

We visited the local village of Alvechurch.

We went exploring in the woods.

We all had a turn at cooking and preparing food for the group.

Once it started to get dark we also had a bonfire and toasted marshmallows.

Walk to School week 1st -5th June

During walk to school week the class with the most children walking to school each day will win a trophy. Our school council are organising the event and will be on the school gate each day to hand out walk to school vouchers. To inspire children to walk to school some of the council members have written an acrostic poem.

Why walk to school?
W- Walking to school provides healthy exercise
A-  Awake alert and happy (scientists have proven this)
L–  Looking around us. Sometimes we don’t look closely at our surroundings
K-  Know your neighbours. Say “good morning” the people we live near.
T-  Talking time to chat. Talk to mum, dad brothers and       sisters
O-  Oxygen. Breathing deeply will keep your lungs working well
S – Safer. The roads are safer for everyone else if there are fewer cars on the
roads so don’t get in the car to school
C-  Clean air. If we travel less in cars, there will be less pollution in the air.
H-  Healthy exercise makes you fitter.
O-  On time for school.
O-  Our family can do something together.
L-   Look out for friends and meet them on the way.

Pre-school Open Day

On Monday 18th May we held our first ever open day for the parents of pre-school children. At the event there were representatives of the following local providers, Small Heath Library, Golden Hillock Children’s Centre Team, Road Safety, Speech and Language Therapist, Stay and play, StartWell Physical Team, BGPS Inclusion Team and Health Visitors as well as the school's PSA and volunteers who were available to talk to the parents. We also had a variety of fun activities to keep the children busy. It was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who attended as well as our fantastic PSA and parents and who helped to organise and run the day.
